Child Life Internship
Rady Children's Hosptial San Diego
During my ACLP-recognized internship, I am set to complete 600 hours over 16 weeks of in-patient, outpatient, and clinic settings across Hem/Onc, PICU, NICU, Proton Radiation, Emergency Room, MedSurg, Radiology, and more. I am learning and growing as a child life professional all while getting hands-on practice in a clinical setting supervised by various certified child life specialists. I am getting to practice and apply my knowledge and skills learned through practicum and master program while educating patients (and/or their siblings) about their illness or condition; preparing and supporting patients for procedures; planning and implementing therapeutic and recreational activities for patients in the playroom and at the bedside; supervising volunteers; attending patient rounds; and identifying the roles of various multidisciplinary team members. I have had the opportunity to learn about the psychosocial needs of different age groups and complete a series of ACLP modules on a variety of topics such as preparation, distraction, medical play, documentation, bereavement, and family-centered care.
